The welding deformation and residual stress in laser-arc hybrid welded butt-joints with different energy ratio RQAL were simulated using a 3D thermal elastic-plastic FEM program developed by Analysis and Comparison of Friction Stir Welding and Fratini and Pasta  studied the longitudinal residual stress distributions in friction stir welding for butt and skinstringer geometries, including lap and T configurations. The findings suggested that FSW of complex skinstringer geometries produces higher residual stresses than those of butt joints.
